Fab Friday 108

Hi stampers!  I never knew selling a house in a much more urban area would be so stressful!  We had a few showings a week back home and here we have multiple ones a day!  I can't figure out when to stamp so there isn't a giant mess or I'm kicked out of my house in the middle or when do do my hang dry laundry lol!!!!

I did manage to whip up a quick card for this week's Fab Friday challenge at least!

I'm sort of in love with these colors and have MANY ideas for them even though I'm short on time!  Of course, succulents were the first thing that came to mind.  I also really like the addition of black with the softer colors.

This post will be short as I'm currently writing it at Panera while we show our house again...at dinner time.  I'm not liking all the money and calories we are wasting by having to eat out.  And we're trying to entertain Ian until we can go home lol!  The showings this morning already cost me lunch at Chick Fil A and a new Thomas train at the bookstore lol!  And turns out it was all for not...the people who were supposed to have an appointment from 4:45-6 rang our bell at 7:15!!!!!  No call or no notice.  We are not happy.  Almost every showing has been a now show, super late, or just super difficult to schedule.  Send help!

Make sure to come play with us at Fab Friday!!!  We've had so many participants, it's awesome!

Happy stamping!

Pacific Dragonfly Dreams Cards - Stampin' Up Artisan Global Design Team Blog Hop

Hi stampers!  Welcome to another Stampin' Up Artisan Blog Hop!  Hop around the globe with us and see amazing projects from all the Artisans!  Don't worry if you didn't start at the beginning, just keep clicking and you'll be around the world in no time at all!  And if you came here from Mercedes' blog, wasn't her stuff fabulous?

This hop is an "open hop" meaning we could pick anything from our latest box so I went with something that isn't really me, just for fun, ya know :-)  Then, my theme became Pacific point and gold as I was playing around.  Most of the time, I like having a clear plan for my projects but sometimes they really do just take on a life of their own and that's what happened here.

The watercolor wash background may be something you see again;-)   My mom was here visiting and was helping me sort my scraps (I FINALLY cleaned out my scraps from the last 6 years or so, hahahahaha...at least moving is good for something) and she may have seen some upcoming projects and wanted to know how I did that.  So, I showed her by letting her pick a color and of course she picked PP which honestly, is a color I NEVER grab.  I'm kind of glad she did...this was sitting on my desk and I just felt compelled to use it!

I did a few unexpected things I think.  And these cards aren't really "me" but they are at the same time, does that make any sense?  LOL!  I'm glad my mom inspired me to go outside of my usual color comfort zone!

For my big dragonfly, I cut out one in Pacific point and then stamped one on WW card stock.  I stamped off for the wings and body and then stamped the outline full strength.  I bent his wings up a little when I attached him to the plain card stock one.  My sentiment is heat embossed with gold powder.

I really love the little dots stamp.  It reminds me of one we had that was similar a few years ago and I loved that one.  I wanted to do something a little bit different with it though, so I stamped it on watercolor paper and then VERY GENTLY sprayed it with a LITTLE bit of water.  I say this because I may have went a little heavy on my first attempt.  It did not turn out well :-)  Some of them spread a little and some didn't and I love the look it left.  I cut out my dragonflies on vellum and actually used the negative portion as a stencil.  I taped it down with some retired washi tape so it didn't move on me and sponged it very carefully as to not bend the vellum.  It's pretty delicate as compared to if you use acetate for a stencil.  I also very carefully cut apart a few of the vellum ones and used a glue dot to adhere them to my gold cutout after bending their wings a bit.  All you need to do is use just the tips of your paper snips in the really detailed areas.

Finally, I couldn't get my sentiment to look right anywhere on the card so I took my trusty paper snips and chopped it up :-)  This is seriously a tip I should think about more often.  It's cute and it usually works any time you can't get your sentiment to work any other way (which happens a lot to me, what about you?).

I hope you liked my dragonfly dream cards!

Now it's time to head off to the Netherlands with Miriam (seriously, I've always wanted to go there!!!) and see the awesomeness she's got waiting for you!  Just click on the photo below!

Display Samples - Dragonflies

Hi stampers.  Happy Election Day...or maybe not ;-)  Don't worry, I don't get very political as I feel it's a very personal thing but I hope everyone in the good ole' USA got out to vote!  It's a privilege and a right that many have suffered and died for!

Ian has a little Melissa and Doug calendar with magnets (I may be lazy and not change them out every single day, hehe) and you can put a special event on it.  Well, there wasn't an election day magnet so I put the President's Day one up there because in a way, it is still correct, ha!  And it had a flag on it ;-)  I actually should use my stamping prowess and make some special magnets for us but there's no room for any more on the little storage board, hehe.

Anyway, since I know most everyone is TIRED of politics, how about some pretty pictures?  And pretty pictures of NEW stuff????  These are two more samples using the dragonfly dreams set and matching framelits from the upcoming Occasions catalog.

The dots on the side are one of the stamps in the set and I LOVE them!  They will be a great addition to all kinds of projects.  I stamped a more solid dragonfly in mint macaron and old olive (it's a 2 step stamp set) and then I cut another in a more detailed image from vellum.  It's difficult to catch in the pictures, but I also covered the vellum in clear wink of stella so there is some shimmer.  I finished it off with the sentiment in perfect plum and some white accents and silver thread.

For my little treat bag, I used one of our kraft tag a bags and just folded it over.  I tied some new emerald envy 1/8th taffeta ribbon around and went to town on my tag.  It was cut with the scalloped tag topper punch out of our fabulous foil designer acetate (that's a mouthful....).  A little hint about those sheets...they have a protective backing on them so you'll want to make sure you peel it off before using it.  I may forget now and then ;-)  Also, did you know that one side of them is gold and the other is silver?  I kept looking for the silver sheets when I got it.  I finally flipped one over and went "ah-ha"!  I stamped the dragonfly in mint macaron and then the sentiment in emerald envy.  Some gold sequins finish it off!

I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek.  I also hope you like my new photo back drop and photo editing.  I'll be back with more projects soon!

Happy stamping!

Display Sample - HapBEE!

Hi stampers!  First of all, thank you so much for your congratulations and kind words on my Artisan post!   I'm going to start sharing some of my display samples.  Some days I'll share just one and others I may share a batch of them to speed things up.  I'm also going to be experimenting with some of my photo editing and watermarks (along with the overall look of my blog at some point) to one, make editing easier and more streamlined for myself and hopefully up my productivity and two, make this place in tip top shape for my upcoming Artisan stint :-)  So, don't be surprised if things look different from time to time and feel free to leave feedback of what you like or what you don't!  As you can see, I've also changed up my photo background.  I have a few other things coming and I'm excited to see how they work out!

I thought I'd start out with something new of course, because that's what you want to see, right?  This set is called dragonfly dreams but also contains this cute little bee.  It also has a matching set of framelits!!!!  And this bee is just the cutest thing cut out!

It's difficult to see in the photo but the bee right in the middle is stamped and then I placed one I stamped then cut out over him with dimensional.  The color here is crushed curry.  I went a little cheesy with my sentiment but I thought it was kind of cute and a little funny.  The labeler alphabet is perfect for any sentiment, you can build anything you want!

I have to say that this set isn't normally my style and I'd probably never had made this card with this color combo if I hadn't "had" to but I kind of love it!
